ART AND NATURE: the art of observing, touching and rediscovering perfumes

The naturalistic and landscape variety of Maremma is the ideal place for tours, long walks and excursions, which grant phisycal and mental wellness and relax through the contact with nature. Guided tours are the best way to get to know the territory of Grosseto, where nature and history merged together through the ages to offer us a splendid mosaic of beautiful and variegated sights: Parco della Maremma - Sea, hills and fields have allowed a great variety of environments: from the swamps of Ombrone river's mouth, to the mediterranean woods in Uccellina's hills, from the still wild coast to the mighty granducale pine grove. The park, open all year, offers the possibility of a cultural and emotive enrichment with its elaborated routes studied to guarantee an incredible contact between man and nature. Inside the park, with some luck, it's possible to see wild animals like foxes, wild boars, deers, venisons, birds and snakes, and at the Azienda Agricola Regionale it's possible to observe the wild breeding of Maremmana cows and horses, tamed by the legendary Butteri, whose traditional way of life still lives and is transmitted from one generation to the next.

The volcanic stone society - A well delimited area of internal Maremma, near the border with Lazio and Umbria; Ancient volcanic eruptions covered this territory with ashes and lapilli wich in time became the famous tufaceous rock, friable and porous. The tufus is the key that allows us to discover the past, across history and humanity's life from prehistory to the early days. In tufus are carved the striking Vie Cave and the many necropolis, testimonies of the etruscan society, on tufus hills lie the old villages of Sovana, Pitigliano and Sorano, with tufus were built many religious buildings, palaces and stems of the medieval and renaissance eras.

The islands - As an old legends tells, two pearls fallen from Aphrodite's necklace in the sea emerged as islands in the blue sea Mar Tirreno like splashes of colour. Giannutri is shaped like a rising moon, covered with a smooth and scented carpet of mediterranean woods, and it's surrounded with a beautiful seabed, full of life, ideal for the lovers of scuba diving. Standing atop the seashore lie the remains of an old Roman villa, property of the powerful family Domizi Enobarbi.

Isola del Giglio - Second in size in the tuscan coast the island offers to its visitors granite beaches that shine in the sun, thanks to the quartz crystals in their sands, breathtaking sights of the sea shore, and the indense blue of the sea. Delicous hidden beaches still keep their names which remember the assaults of pirates on the island, and on the steep hillside the famous Ansonaco winestalk is still grown. Curious and interesting its three villages, Giglio Porto with its coloured houses, the old streets of Castello, carved in stone and Giglio Campese, with its oddly red coloured beach and the Tower, built in the year 600.

Mount Amiata - An inactive volcano, which from its 1735m of height overlooks upon Maremma. An "enchanted mountain" that hides on the inside natural treasures of great value: from the natural water spills wich provides for the needs of the entire province of Grosseto and part of Siena, to the numerous mineral mines used by man since a long time ago, to the geothermal energy used by the inhabitants of the mountain itself. Climbing towards the top it's possible to visit many medieval villages, chestnut groves kept as gardens, beech groves which contribute to the beautiful landscape conquered by man, but where nature is still regarded and protected.

Natural reserves - The reserves present in Maremma allow to observe the various environments present here, exceptionally intact and with a great degree of biodiversity: from the beach of Cala Violina, to the swamps of Diaccia Botrona, the oasis of Orbetello's lagoon, the natural sand-and-gravel bar of Feniglia, the top of Monte Labbro and Monte Penna, the centennial woods of Pigelleto and of Santissima Trinità.
